Game animals in most states are ones that can legally be hunted with a hunting license. Most states don't allow you to keep game animals in captivity.
There are so called "hunting" ranches that are fenced off, where they can keep game animals and charge for hunting them, but I wouldn't think this meets the definition of captivity.
Maybe google New York state -game animals- codes and laws.
